I also had a bit of a ~revelation~ while I was making that last list! I realized that I tend to have very little patience for any superhero (or character in a superhero-type genre role, like Buffy or the Winchesters) who pretends that they're not in it, at least on some level, for the fun of being a superhero. At least when I'm supposed to believe that there's no "woooo I'm a superhero" element to it at all, anyway. This is sort of why I love a lot of Gail Simone's stuff, because the majority of her characters clearly love what they do and are good at it besides.

Like, I totally believe someone becoming a superhero primarily because they want to help people/want revenge/whatever, and if they're in denial/repressed and it's pretty clear that they just refuse to admit that they enjoy it, I can work with that (sometimes), but when I'm supposed to buy that they're wholly about their agenda, and that agenda in no way includes "superheroing=awesome", I either don't buy it or I get creeped out or both. Like, basic premise of Watchmen -- if you want to help people, there are tons of ways to accomplish that without putting on a costume, so the costume must be fulfilling some other need as well. My favorite characters tend to be the ones who own that yes, they want to help people, but also, BEING A SUPERHERO IS FREAKING AWESOME. Yet another reason, also, why I project embarrassingly onto Dean Winchester, I suspect. John is something of an exception to this, but idk, I suspect he might fall into the "in denial or repressing that there's some enjoyment there" category, and I think Mary was definitely in denial about it.

Plus a bonus crossover ship from when me and [livejournal.com profile] the_wanlorn were chatting last night, and discussing how hilarious we find the M/K fics where Mulder rapes Krycek.

Mostly cut for capslock abuse. )

These are totally fun! I've got more to do but feel free to keep 'em coming.

Say 'nerd'!
